Junior Waterpolo in Northampton - Saturday 9th May

Junior waterpolo players get a taste of the action!
Younger members of Grantham Waterpolo Club were guests this weekend at Northampton Waterpolo club for an afternoon of valuable matchplay experience and confidence building in their game development.
A squad of 13 travelled down with superb support from parents and young coaches in order to play a full 4 quarter game with intentionally similarly matched sides on a ‘friendly’ basis.
The game was closely contended with a final score of 13-9 to the Northampton team. Grantham’s 9 goals went to lead scorer Matt Smith (6), with Jermaine Cann-Livingstone (2) and Hannah Underwood (1).
Jacob Allen and Luke Griffin used their swimming technique effectively to cover counter attacks, while Henry Price, Beth McLoughlin and Amelia Marvin demonstrated their growing confidence in goal shooting. Oscar Parnham had his debut in goal notably saving 4 strong shots and strong support was provided by Naomi Solomon and Harvey Lunn who both set up some great goal scoring opportunities. Phoebe Leach and Pawel Hoffman showed great determination when relentlessly trying to steal the ball from the opposition. Young coaches Nayal Patel, Rose Bitowt and Adam Smith cheered on the young side from the poolside encouraging their game and were proud of the achievements of the young team- many of whom had little or no experience of a 4 quarter game.
Following the match the Grantham and Northampton squads split into 3 mixed squads and continued to play an exciting round of ‘winner stays in’ matches with great enthusiasm. Sally Dunlop, Chairman of GWPC commented – ‘This was a superb day for our younger players. We are very grateful to Northampton for their hospitality – we hope that we can arrange another ‘Friendly matchplay day ‘ for our players soon.’
